Essay entitled: "Narrative of the wreck of the brig R̀apid'" and letter (dated 3rd Nov. 1975) from Bill Torrington to Nan Kivell. It appears (according to a Rowson descendant) that John Rawson of Stonyroyd, born 1774 had six sons, six daughters. One son John Rawson, was the father of Major Samuel about six months older than Major Samuel. This other Samuel, the author of MS 4279, is in Burke's Peerage as "Samuel Rawson of China." He set off from Sydney to China in the "Rapid", which was shipwrecked. See 402/4/663, letter 14 July 1986.
